Why Elkader, Iowa?
Our 2021 National Show host, C.J. Moyna & Sons, is based in Elkader, Iowa. The road construction company is celebrating its 75th anniversary in business during the show weekend. Over the years, C.J. Moyna & Sons has led the way within the industry in the state of Iowa and beyond. Third-generation owner, John P. Moyna, has been a leader in the road construction industry for years, developing earthmoving equipment and collecting antique Caterpillar machinery, in addition to the day-to-day business operations of the road construction business.
C.J. Moyna's sister company, Mobile Track Solutions (MTS), is also located in Elkader. In 2009, John launched the earthmoving equipment manufacturer and began selling through the Caterpillar dealer network. With over 100 employees, the business has expanded its capabilities beyond scrapers to include tractors, disks, and many more custom products. During the show weekend, tours will be available to learn more about this innovative company, now shipping Elkader, Iowa-made products around the world. To find out more about MTS, visit www.mobiletracksolutions.com.
One of the largest antique Caterpillar machinery collectors in the world is located in Elkader, Iowa. John P. Moyna has a collection of machines either restored, partially restored, or on the list to be restored in Elkader. In early 2020, John broke ground on an Earthmoving Legacy Center outside of the C.J. Moyna & Sons headquarters in Elkader to house his machinery collection and educate future generations of the earth-moving industry. The Earthmoving Legacy Center will have its grand opening and be one of the show centerpieces.
You don't want to miss this!
Lastly, Elkader's NE Iowa town is quite small (1,200 population, to be exact), but it is incredibly quaint, loaded with character, and has a tourism vibe that not many small towns have these days. Located in the "driftless" region, Elkader is tucked in between beautiful limestone bluffs with the Turkey River running effortlessly through the small town. Minutes from the Mississippi River, this area— filled with bike trails, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and more—has plenty to offer and explore!
